Course content
Introduction to biophysics. Mechanical properties of substances and their applications in dentistry. Biophysics of electrical signals in organism, electrical instruments in dentistry. Biophysics of blood circulation, biophysics of respiration. Sound and its properties. Human voice. Biophysics of hearing, vision. Optical devices in dentistry. Therapeutical application of ultrasound in dentistry. Biostatistics in dentistry. Imaging methods in dentistry.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Laboratory Work
Learning outcomes
The goal of the subject is explanation of biophysical principles in physiological processes of human body (molecular biophysics, biophysics of cell and tissues), its function (biophysics of perception, organ biophysics) and its interaction with external environment. In the following there will be explained the essentials of biostatistics, basic physical properties of liquids, solids and mainly dental materials. The students will acquire basic physical principles of laboratory methods in dentistry, some diagnostic and therapeutic methods. A part of the practical training course is a computer work, when the students are familiarized with application software used in medicine.
The students will be able to understand biophysical processes in human body and will be able to work with basic medical instrumental technique.
Prerequisites
Students ought to have fundamental biology and physics attainments at the secondary education level.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam, Student performance

100% attendance, measurement protocols completed, MCQ test and oral exam.
