The seminars will focus on Czech syntax, concentrating on three interconnected areas: (1) basic concepts of Czech sentence and clause analysis and description (traditional syntax and syntax based on verb valency in a given form, Vf) and related terminology; (2) various forms of realization of Czech sentences and clauses in communication (communicative functions of utterances and their characteristics focused on linguistic means); and (3) the relationship of the syntactic level to lower levels, especially the morphological level, and higher levels, especially the text level. The aim of the seminars is to familiarize students with the basic concepts of Czech syntax and to support communication skills based on these concepts, focusing primarily on the first stage of elementary school.

(1) Exercises for individual topics are available in MS Teams; I expect each seminar member to have knowledge of the given topic in practical application to language material. (2) We will conduct several tests during the semester; I expect each of them to be completed. (3) The credit will be awarded in the form of a written test, which will focus only on practical skills based on understanding sentence and clause structure. The pass mark will be set at 70%. For ISP students: based on individual agreement with the teacher, students will submit completed exercises and a seminar paper on a specified topic, about which they will be able to speak coherently for at least 10 minutes. |
