Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces literature for children and youth as a distinct subsystem of national and world literature. It introduces students to its genre, developmental and value specifics and emphasizes its function in the process of socialization and aesthetic education of the child. Analyzes major developmental currents from folklore to contemporary literary and visual production, including popular genres, fantasy, and comics. It also examines the relationship between children's literature and school reading and the issue of literary triviality. Particular attention is paid to interdisciplinary overlaps, illustration and adaptation, as well as reader reception and criteria of literary quality.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: describe the historical development of literature for children and youth and its specific features; distinguish the basic genres and types of literature for different age categories of children and youth; analyse and interpret selected texts with regard to their function, form and value potential; evaluate the quality of literary works for children and young people on the basis of professional criteria; understand contemporary book production and awards (Golden Ribbon, Magnesia Litera, etc.); formulate a professional reflection on a selected title and propose its didactic use; recognise and critically evaluate the signs of literary triviality.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam, Student performance, Systematic Observation of Student, Seminar Work, Written exam
Active participation in seminars (min. 70 %), preparation of the seminar work according to the assignment, oral examination after credit. Credit: Seminar paper of 4 standard pages + title page. Analysis of one selected work from the recommended list. Structure of the thesis: basic bibliographic data (author, illustrator, publisher, awards), summary of the plot and main ideas, linguistic, compositional and genre characteristics of the work, own interpretation with emphasis on the reading experience and value overlap, proposal for didactic use in school or after-school practice. Requirements for students with ISP: Students will submit a term paper: The length of the seminar paper is set at 4 standard pages (Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 line spacing, block alignment) + title page (first name, last name, field of study, year of study).
