Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the analysis and interpretation of works of world literature for children and young people from the 20th century to the present, with an emphasis on prose with a children's and adolescent protagonist, adventure literature, fantasy and comics. Students will become familiar with important authors and current development trends, understand the specifics of translated literature and learn to distinguish between artistically valuable and trivial production. Emphasis is placed on cultivating interpretive skills and the ability to contextualize texts within genre, cultural and pedagogical contexts.
After completing the course, the student will: identify and characterize key genre variants (e.g., girls' novel, adventure literature, fantasy); interpret selected texts with regard to their aesthetic, thematic, and cultural qualities; evaluate the work of significant foreign authors in terms of developmental trends in children's and youth literature; distinguish valuable translated literature from trivial production; use knowledge of foreign literary awards when orienting themselves in the international literary field; connect literary analysis with pedagogical applications and the teaching context.
