Course content
1. Introduction to the study of language (Czech national language forms, norms and codification, characteristic features). 2. Phonetics and phonology (principles of literary pronunciation, sound means of fluent speech). 3. Czech ortography rules. 4.Word formation (motivated denominations, non-motivated). 5. Morphology (parts of speech and functionality of their usage in linguistic utterance).

Learning outcomes
A general study of language, introduction to phonetics and phonology, basics of orthoepy. Word-formation, derivaion, compounding. Morphological phenomena. Characteristic features of Czech language (description and analysis of language). Stratification of national language. Literary language, interdialects, dialects, sociolects. Physiology and analysis of organs of speech. Articulation and classification of sounds. Sound aids of fluent speech. Principles of orthoepic pronunciation. Graphic system of Czech language. Relation of pronunciation and orthography. Word and denomination. Word meaning. Word formation, its categories and types. Process of word formation. Composition. Abbreviation. Formal and functional morphology. Grammatical categories. Substantives, adjectives, pronouns, numerals, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, particles, interjections.
