Attention is paid to traditional genres (folk and author's fairy tales, poetry, short prose) as well as contemporary trends in Czech and international book production, with emphasis on illustration, interdisciplinary overlaps and the function of the text in the educational process. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: Explain the specifics of literature for preschool children with regard to cognitive and emotional development; characterize the basic genres of children's literature and their functions; analyze and interpret literary works for children, including the visual component (illustrations); critically evaluate and navigate contemporary book production; reflect on the value and aesthetic potential of children's literature in the context of school and pre-school education; propose appropriate ways of integrating selected literary titles into educational practice; distinguish quality artistic literature from trivial production.
