Course content
Literature, film and media education - methodological definition Values, emotional and symbolic aspects of literature and film Reception, interpretation and criticism - reader and viewer Film adaptation - basic terminology and historical development Didactics of film adaptation - teaching using audiovisual media Literary and film genres - classification and narrative structure Types of narrative in literature and film - comparison and educational use Intermedia relations between literature, film and visual arts Film and humanities - overlaps with history, civics, ethics Film, language and identity - multicultural aspects in education Critical reading of film - developing media literacy in pupils Curriculum design of media education in Czech language and literature education

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the interconnection of literature and film in the pedagogical context of the primary school, with particular emphasis on their mutual interpretive, aesthetic and value potential. The study is embedded in the framework of media education as a cross-cutting topic according to the RVP ZV and emphasizes the application of interdisciplinary approaches in literary and film education. Students will acquire methods of working with audiovisual media in teaching, understand the principles of transmedia transfer and acquire competences to implement didactically meaningful integration of text and image in basic education.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: Explain the basic relationships between literary and cinematic works in an educational context; identify and didactically use the basic principles of film adaptation; understand literary and cinematic works as tools for the formation of students' cultural identity and value system; design model teaching situations using literary and film texts; reflect on media education as part of holistic aesthetic and critical education; integrate methods of literary, film and media education into the teaching of Czech language and social science subjects; cultivate pupils' ability to interpret, compare and evaluate different types of media.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

Preparation of a seminar paper of at least 10 standard pages focused on a comparative analysis of a selected literary text and its film adaptation. The term paper should include: basic bibliographic information about both works (author, director, year of creation, creative team); analysis of the main theme and message of the literary and film work; comparison of structural, stylistic and narrative differences; proposal for didactic use in teaching at the 2nd level of primary school; list of sources used in a professional citation standard (e.g. ISO 690, APA). Requirements for students with ISP: The seminar paper should include: a) a brief introduction of your chosen publication (author, year of publication, illustrator, etc.) and film (director, producers, length of film, etc.); b) the main theme/idea/message of the publication and film: this is not a summary of the content, but an excerpt of the main idea or mission; c) a description of the differences between the publication and its film adaptation; d) a proposal for the inclusion of a comparison between the publication and its film adaptation in the second cycle of primary education; e) a list of literature, films viewed, etc., in the form of a valid bibliographic citation of your choice (ISO 690, APA, etc.).
