Course content
Course structure 1. The subject of the sociology of lifestyles, self-sufficient living in harmony with nature, the definition of modern society and its characteristics, work, careers and new forms of employment 2. Living standards and quality of life 3. Lifestyle theory 4. Changes in lifestyles 5. Ecological challenges of modern society 6. Green skills and sustainability as ideology vs. practical need; how to prevent "green fatigue". Green skills in everyday life 7. The meaning of life and consumerism 8. Sustainable lifestyles and self-sufficiency 9. Space and time and lifestyles 10. Fashion, luxury and lifestyle 11. Leisure and lifestyle 12. Collective action in consumption and lifestyle, back to the land and healthy food, permaculture, eco-communities, eco-organic subculture. 13. Generational and gender aspects of lifestyles

Learning outcomes
The aim of the discipline is to introduce students to the different perspectives of sociology as a theory of society on different aspects of ways of living in it and their interpretation, and thus to offer students of media studies sociological frameworks for thinking about the functioning of society, to delimit the field of sociology of lifestyle and to outline the basic problems and their theoretical solutions. Course Objectives 1. Analyse the key elements of modern lifestyles and their impact on individuals and society. 2. Discuss the social, economic and environmental challenges associated with modern lifestyles. 3. to integrate concepts of sustainability and green skills into the discussion of lifestyle. 4. Explore modern lifestyles comprehensively and learn green skills naturally as part of a broader discussion of sustainability.
Students will acquire skills of the course according to sylabus. Students theoretically define and interpret the way of life. Students are able to categorize particular manifestations of the way of life. Students are able to discuss various aspects of the way of life and substantiate their conclusions with relevant arguments.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

The student will receive credit for active participation in the discussions at individual seminars. 80% participation is required. The exam will be in the form of a paper presentation. Student must demonstrate the following competences: theoretically defines and interprets the way of life. He/she is able to categorize particular manifestations of the way of life. He/she is able to discuss various aspects of the way of life. He/she is able to support his/her conclusions by relevant arguments.
