Course content
1st The concept of science - science as revolution vs. science as a cumulative process, paradigms of science - Kuhn, Merton 2nd Comte - statics and dynamics, positivism 3rd Naturalism, evolutionism, social Darwinism, sociobiology 4th K. Marx, Marxism 5th Conflictualism 6th Structural functionalism 7th Symbolic interactionism 8th Phenomenology and constructivism 9th Dramaturgy sociology, etnometodologie, rational choice theory, theory of exchange 10th Psychologismus, behaviorism 11th Pragmatism, rationalism, empiricism 12th Structuralism and postmodernism 13th Attempts to link subjectivism and objectivism - Bourdieu, Giddens

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the structure of theory of social sciences to students. Let them adopt key authors and concepts.
- Course provides basic knowledge of theory of social sciences, key authors, theories and concepts. - Students acquire broad knowledge background for further analysis of the society and its particular social groups, or dynamics. - They will be able to interconnect knowledge they acquired in other study subjects. - They will gain the skill of critical reflexion and analysis of societal precesses and will be able to percieve them from different angles. - They will acquire competencies to critical analysis of scholarly texts. - They will gain interdisciplinary and historically contextualized insight and understanding of the development of the society and culture.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of sociological thinking.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Active participation in seminar lessons (max. of 20 % absence is allowed), final written test based on closed and multiple-response question.
