Course content
1. Language - human - culture or what is (ethno)linguistics concerned with? 2. The linguistic picture of the world and methods of its reconstruction 3. The basis for reconstructing the linguistic picture of the world a) Linguistic data (systematic - vocabulary and grammar) b) Textual data (clichés, evoked texts) and "receptive" data (cultural behaviour) 4) Representation of the world and people in the Polish linguistic picture of the world a) Picture of the natural world (stereotypes of selected plants) b) Picture of the natural world (stereotypes of selected animals) c) Human in terms of gender (stereotypes of women and men) d) Poles and other nationalities (ethnic and national stereotypes) The activities within the project will be carried out by research and teaching experts who have scientific achievements and appropriate teaching experience in this subject. As part of the course, students will become acquainted with both the theory of JOS and its application to the study of Polish language; they will study selected Polish-language publications in this field, as well as apply in practice the research methods they have learnt to the analysis of Polish language. The first attempt of their independent application will be a credit work prepared by a student/doctoral student on a selected fragment of the linguistic image of the world of Polish language. The students who completed theses grades as 'very good' will be invited to present them in the form of a paper at a scientific session summing up the project. Thus, they will gain additional experience related to active participation in scientific life and will be motivated to further study the secrets of Polish language.

Learning outcomes
This course aims: - to improve the knowledge of Polish language, Polish culture and Polish history. - to introduce students and PhD students to the description of the concept of the linguistic image of the world and the methods of its reconstruction developed by the ethno-linguistic team from Lublin, - to increase linguistic awareness by gaining the ability to see the connections between the language, its (native) speakers, the experiences of their community, history and culture, - perfecting the ability to work with different sources, understanding, analyzing, drawing conclusions, - getting to know cultural heritage related to Polish language, - shaping intercultural sensitivity.
The participants of the seminar will improve their linguistic, communicative and cultural competencies and acquire very good comprehension and analysis skills of the read literary text.
Prerequisites
The course is intended for students of bachelor, master and doctoral studies. The course is taught in Polish.

Regular active participation in seminars 80%, i.e. 2 absences per semester, completing all sub-tasks, self-study of the literature on the subject
