Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to research methods, provides an overview of electronic resources, explains how to search for information based on specific requirements, and covers the compilation of the resulting list of information. Emphasis is also placed on citation ethics and citation standards. The course guides students through the following areas: - selecting and choosing a thesis topic, understanding the topic, - identifying the problem, formulating the objective(s), - finding solution methods and the ability to apply them, - working with academic literature and specialised information sources, - ensuring a high standard of form and style in the thesis, - processing, evaluating, and interpreting results.
The students will gain an overview of academic writing, will be able to create a shorter text (academic essay), use researched sources and apply knowledge about the formal level of the text, analyze and present their results. Students will also gain a basic understanding of methods used in philological research and the concept of project work.
Prerequisites
adequate knowledge of professional terminology in the studied language, ability to work with printed and electronic resources, basic knowledge of PC work and corresponding search and editing programs, work with printed materials, excerpability, analysis, synthesis, deduction and induction.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work

Participation in lectures, submission of ongoing assignments, submission and presentation of the final assignment in the Czech language.
