Course content
1. Roma in perspective Romistic studies. 2. The anthropological approach to the issue. 3. Social perspective on the problem, Roma and Roma ethnicity as a political issue. 4. The pre-war and wartime history of the Roma in the Czech Republic. 5. Roma in the Czech Republic in the era of socialism. 6. Social processes in 1989 and Roma. 7. Cultural stratification "Roma groups" within the country. 8. Roma middle class in our society. 9. Life in socially excluded localities. 10. The situation of individuals - Roma in our present society.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on the life of the Roma in the Czech Republic. In the first part touches the bases, of which is life of Roma people in our environment understood and described. And secondly, the theoretical foundations (Romistic, anthropological, sociological) as well as practically experienced by Roma and bases non-Romani protagonists of the public debate on this topic. The course briefly introduces the history of the Roma in the Czech Republic focusing on three periods of the 20th century (pre-war and wartime, post-war and post-communist), in which the clearly the potential impact of the current level. Another topic will be the cultural and social stratification Roma groups living in our environment. The main objective of the course is to describe and interpret with respect to diversity aspects and influences the individual's situation - Roma in our society, the situation of the Roma middle class in this country and the situation of socially excluded localities.
After successful completion of the course the student will be able to describe the phenomenon of being Roma from several research perspectives, and provide a brief explanation of the history of the Roma in the Czech Republic; enumerate sub-ethnic and cultural group of Roma living in the Czech Republic can briefly describe the situation of the Roma in the Czech Republic from the social point of view. Graduates will be able to clarify the situation individual-Roma in our society, learn to interpret various social phenomena and events that are related to the life of the Roma.
