Course content
|
1. Etnomusicology as one possible approach to understanding culture, its introduction into broader context of cultural anthropology interest. 2.-12. Seminar meetings with music expressions of chosen cultural areas.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is - through particular examples of music expressions - to approach present or previous cultural variability. After an introductory lesson of the tutor, the course is to be a seminar. Students, after the basic agreement with the tutor, choose particular cultural areas, to which seminar meeting are to be devoted, and to which music content is to be collected and presented (for example South American Indian music, Indian peninsula music etc.). The presentation will be partly non-discursive (listening chosen music examples) and partly discursive (introducing the explaining contextual information, discussion etc). The course can be attended only by highly motivated student, who is ready to work on collecting (mostly internet-databases) and contextualizing the information.
After passing the course successfully, students will able of orientation and discussion on great variety of music appearances of those cultural areas which will be chosen (by them) for seminar work. Inductively - based on their active role in seminar - the function of music will be transmitted, as an integral part of every culture (social, religious function of music etc.), and similarly students will be introduced into the globalization impact on local cultures: shifts from original music forms to fusion - syncretic or eclectic - alternatives (global fusion, world music).

|
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work
An active seminar presence, fulfilling continuing tasks: independent and team seminar work, search for and contextualization of internet based information.
