Course content
1. World before 1 World War division of the world between colonial powers , colonial conflicts ( China , Africa) , Palestine - Zionism , the Balkans . 2. The First World War: International Relations , causes a pretext for the outbreak of war , the course of the war , the Russian Revolution , 1918 - Versailles - Washington system . 3. Czech country for the first World War II : domestic and foreign resistance , Czechoslovakia, the first laws of the new republic , delimitation. 4. The world between the two world wars : the economic boom in the 20th years , efforts to revise the Versailles system , the emergence of totalitarian regimes (communism vs . fascism ) , a civil war in Russia , fascism in Italy, the Great Depression and starting from it , Nazism in Germany, the Spanish Civil War , the policy of appeasement . 5. Czechoslovakia between the two world wars : Economic and political developments in Czechoslovakia , the specifics of the global economic crisis in Czechoslovakia Czechoslovakia in the fight against fascism ( 30s ) , Munich consequences for us and European developments . 6. The Second World War in terms of world development . 7. Our country for the second World War II , their struggle against the occupiers for the new Czechoslovakia . 8. Sharpen international relations after the second World War II. 9. The confrontation of opposing systems ( USA , USSR), the collapse of the Soviet bloc. 10. Development of Czechoslovakia from May 1945 to February 1948. 11. Period Stalinism and de-Stalinization (1948-1961) 12. The Prague Spring and its suppression (1968-1969) 13. The difficult road to the new democracy (1969-1993) .

Learning outcomes
The aim of the lectures focused on the issues of general history is to acquaint students with the most important facts and processes in the world in the twentieth century, show the way, ways and means to explore the history of that period. The center of gravity lies in the interpretation of the world's major problems, primarily political and economic. Detail follows the development of international relations, power, and individual areas of political, military and economic groupings. The same applies to the process of decolonization and development of the newly established state units set in a general context. The aim is also essential characteristic of the fundamental ideas and cultural currents of the 20th century.
After successful completion of the course the student will be able to: demonstrate knowledge of key phenomena in the history of the modern period; commenting connection between political, economic, social, demographic and cultural phenomena in the history of the 20. century; define the relation between historical events in Europe and selected non-European areas.

Oral exam

Final essay and final test, class participation (the course cannot be completed succesfully, if you miss more than 25% of classes, this does not apply to significant life events or ducumented emergencies), assigned readings.
