Course content
|
The first part of the course provides students with a basic overview of the history of art in the Americas during the pre-Columbian period. It introduces students, in chronological order, to the artistic expressions of Indigenous cultures in core areas (Mesoamerica and the Andes), while also paying attention to other regions (Amazonia). The second part of the course gives students an insight into the history of Latin American art from 1492 to the present, gradually introducing them to colonial, modern, postmodern, and contemporary art.

Students have knowledge of the cultural issues of Hispanic America and are able to analyze visual sources.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of Spanish and a basic historical, social, and cultural overview of Latin America.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam
Presentation, preparation of concepts from the history of Latin American art, oral exam, class participation, reading excerpts from the required literature.
