Course content
This course will cover the following topics: 1. 09/10 a brief methodological introduction and an outline of the main stages of development of Latin American film; the main topic: Cine de autor: transfiguraciones y permanencies movie: Memorias del subdesarrollo, 1968, direction Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Cuba 2. 23/10 The returning genres (thriller, melodrama, comedy, magic realism) movie: Ahí está el detalle, 1940, direction Juan Bustillo Oro, Mexico 3. 06/11 The reality and magic realism, melodrama as the Latin American genre par excellence movie: Caídos del cielo, 1990, direction Francisco J. Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the thematic, historical and political milestones that formed the history of cinematography of Latin America. Hence, it is neither a chronological, nor geographical survey of movie industry, but we will analyse the key tendencies from the aesthetic, social and historical point of view.
- to understand the development of Latin American cinematography in the context of social and cultural changes - to be able to use terminology related to cinematography - to interpret an artistic work in the historical and social context of the given period - to develop the ability to take part in an academic discussion

Assessment methods and criteria
Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work

1. regular attendance and active participation in the lectures 2. on the basis of the movies seen in class and the research of literature, to write an essay dealing with one of the covered topics or on a related topic, subject to prior agreement with the teacher.
