Course content in blocks: Introduction: Basic orientation in the issue of the state-forming development of Hispanic American countries after gaining independence and in the area of the complicated coexistence between Latin American countries and the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. Learning outcomes
|
The course introduces students to selected historical periods that significantly influenced society and the subsequent historical development not only of specific Hispanic American countries but also of Latin America as a whole. The topics are presented to students through theoretical lectures and then through film portrayals of the given periods, followed by discussions about them. (A selection is necessary due to the time limitations of the course. The focus on specific events and countries will vary across several consecutive semesters.)
Insight into the political, social, economic, and cultural development in Latin America in the 19th century and especially the 20th century. Acquisition of basic historiographical and art-historical terminology.

Basic knowledge of Spanish; the course is taught in Spanish.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam, Essay, Seminar Work
Regular attendance and active participation in lectures and seminars. A short presentation on an assigned topic. A written exam.
