Learning outcomes

The curse aims at developing the written expression in Spanish at various stylistic levels. We will practice basic discursive procedures (description, narration, argumentation, exposition). We will pay a special attention to academic types of text (annotation, summary, summary, synopsis, report, review, etc.), and to those that might be relevant in students' professional life (curriculum vitae, various forms of official and unofficial correspondence, formal applications, affidavits, reports, minutes of meetings, etc.). We will also address theoretically different argumentative procedures, the structuring of the text, and textual and discursive cohesion and coherence. In any case, the emphasis will be on putting these resources and procedures in practice in written texts.
The course is designed to develop the ability to produce written texts across a wide range of stylistic registers. Its content focuses on practising core discursive and communicative functions (such as summarising, describing objects, people, events, and places) and the methods of their construction, with particular emphasis on text types that students encounter during their studies (annotation, abstract, summary, outline, report, review, etc.), as well as those relevant for professional practice (curriculum vitae, various forms of formal and informal correspondence, forms of address and abbreviations in correspondence, applications, certificates, statutory declarations, reports, minutes, etc.). The course also includes a theoretical component addressing key argumentative strategies, text organisation, and the means of textual and discursive cohesion. However, the primary emphasis is placed on practical application and guided practice.
