Course content
1. Introduction into the course Education in nature and outdoor sojourn 2 Safety in classes and rules of conduct, course organization, introduction of the Course guide, credit requirements and dates, instructions for seminar papers 2. Mountain climbing History of mountain climbing, materials, equipment 3. Mountain climbing Safety standards, manipulation with equipment, knotting 4. Mountain climbing Basic security and abseil techniques 5. Camping History of camping, materials, equipment 6. Camping Safety, geographical, ecological and social aspects 7. River tourism History of river tourism, materials, equipment 8. River tourism Safety standards of river tourism on still and calm running water 9. River tourism Techniques of canoeing and kayaking on still and calm running water 10. Orientation in terrain History, safety standards 11. Orientation in terrain Fundamentals of using the map and compass 12. Orientation in terrain Training of practical skills, orienteering 13. Awarding credits, conclusion Completion of credit requirements, test, final evaluation, comments on the course.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is particularly to provide theoretical background for Outdoor summer sojourn course 1 and 2. This particularly includes the following outdoor activities: camping, mountaineering and mountain climbing, orientation in terrain and orienteering, river tourism, summer survival. The course includes one-day trips to the countryside. The whole subject is closely related to the preparation for outdoor education. The main content of the course is theoretical introduction of the history, technique, biomechanics, equipment, and modern trends in the development of specific types of physical activity. The acquired knowledge is used in outdoor practice to deliver leisure programmes. The content of the course is included in the exam from Theory of recreation in nature. Information about this course was translated to English within the project Internationalization of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University, Olomouc, No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0028, co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Government of the Czech Republic.
Upon completion of the course the student: - Is knowledgeable about the history, appropriate technique, biomechanics and modern trends in the development of selected activities (summer survival, mountain climbing, orientation in terrain, camping, river tourism); - Is knowledgeable about the equipment and materials used in these activities; - Knows the theory of didactics and methodology of training the mentioned recreational activities; - Is able to eliminate health risks ensuing from recreational pursuit of these activities.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Systematic Observation of Student, Seminar Work

Credit: active participation in classes, seminar paper, orienteering session. Seminar paper: development of a plan of an all-day hiking or cycling tour or including a map, altitude profile and description of places of interests along the route. Hiking tour of about 20km, cycling tour of about 40km. Special instructions for seminar papers: Topics will be assigned at the beginning of the summer semester. Model papers will be shown. Electronic seminar papers are preferred.
