Course content
|
Reading and analysis of selected extracts from Dante?s Comedy, useful for the understanding of the medieval theories of style and for the interpretation of Dante?s whole work, for the relations between the Comedy and the classical/christian tradition, between Dante and the literature of his time. Encounter with Vergil and Statius and definition of the relation between the ancient world and christian culture (If. I, 61-90; Pg. XXI, 7-36 e 76-102; Pg. XXII, 55-93 e 127-129; Isaia, XL, 3; Salmi, LXIX, 4). First cantos and the introduction to the text (If. I; Pg. I; Pd. I; Pd. II, 1-15). 3. Court and stilnovistic tradition in the Comedy (If. V; If. X, 52-72 e 127-132; Pg. XIII, 16-21; Pd. XXXIII, 76-78; Rime, IX (Guido, i' vorrei ...); Eccl. II, 14; Guido Cavalcanti, I' vegno 'l giorno ...; Cv., IV, VII, 11-13). Classical and christian epics: Dante and Odyseus (If. XXVI).
