Course content
|
French poetry of the period of symbolism and surrealism. Precursors of modern poetry. Baudelaire. Rimbaud. Verlaine. Mallarmé. Lautréamont. Detailed analysis of selected works: Baudelaire's Fleurs du mal, Verlaine's Chanson d'automne and its translations into Czech. Rimbaud's Illuminations. Ideology and poetry of the beginning of the 20th century, Péguy, Claudel. Modernism and postmodernism. Dada movement and surrealism. Breton, Desnos, Eluard, Aragon. Apollinaire's modernism, return to classicism in Valéry's works. Saint-John Perse, Jouve, Char, Michaux.

The objective of this course is to enrich the student's knowledge of French poetry of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
