Course content
The following topics will be covered in this course: 1/ International Organisation of La Francophonie and its influence on the position of French in the world. 2/ Language policy of Louisiana and the future of French in this American state 3/ Language policy of France and the specificities of the non-European parts of France 4/ Language policy of the Maghreb countries, arabization and its consequences for the French language 5/ Language policy of francophone countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, the relationship between French and the local languages

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to make the students familiar with the position of French and the language policy of the selected francophone countries. The emphasis is put mainly on the relationship between French and other languages used in the given territories and on the issue of the future of French language outside Europe.
to uderstand the development of the status of French language in the francophone world to get familiar with the language policy of the francophone countries to enrich one's knowledge about bilingualism and diglosia to develop the abilities to analyse the issues related to the legal status of languages in multilingual countries

Student performance

1. regular attendance and active participation in the lectures and seminars 2. preparation for the lessons 3. a presentation The credit test will test the understanding of the basic issues of francophony and the status of French in the world.
