The development of the genre is demonstrated on the example of great French writers (Rousseau, Leiris, Sarraut, Barthes, Sartre, de Beauvoir, Perec) and theorists (Lejeune, Gusdorf, Starobinski). Autobiographical variations of authors such as Duras, Modiano, Doubrovsky or Ernaux are taken into account. The terminological issues of autobiography and autofiction are also addressed, especially in relation to literature written by women, as well as biography and biofiction.
