Course content
1. Education, objective and contents of education in the past and present, objective and contents of education at primary schools. Basic education terminology defining the contents of education (teaching plans, curricula, text books), their characteristics in approach of primary schools, general schools, national schools. 2. Teaching, overview of teaching concepts. The principle of teaching process, functions and stages of teaching process with respect to specifics of primary schools. 3. Didactic principles, methods and organizational forms of teaching, their specific features at primary schools. 4. Personality of a pre-school child and younge school child, starting school, school maturity, start of school attendance and adaptation of a child to a school. Role of a pre-school in preparing children for school.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this discipline is to introudce the issues of education and instruction. Students will acquire a theoretical outline of the basic didactic categories, and primarily they will be introduced to the issues and specifics of the educational process in primary school. From the perspective of succession between kindergarten and primary school, due attention will be paid to the issues of commencing school and school attendance, with a focus on the kindergarten's role in preparing a child for school education. The contents of the discipline:1. Education, the aim and contents of education in history and today, the aim and contents of education in primary school. Essential pedagogical standards, stipulating the contents of education (study programmes, curricula, textbooks), their characteristics in the conception of a primary school, general school, and national school. 2. Teaching, an outline of teaching concepts. The fundamentals of the teaching process and the functions and stages of the teaching process specifically with respect to primary school.3. Didactic principles, the methods and organization of teaching, and their specific features in primary school.4. The personality of a pre-school and younger school age child, starting school, the issues of school maturity, school attendance, commencement, and a child's adaptation to the school. The role of kindergarten in preparing children for school.
Students will be provided with competencies that will get to the content and objectives of the course.

General orientation in education.
