Course content
The concept of criminal law, the principles of criminal law. Competence of criminal law. The concept of crime, classification of crimes, body of crime. The object of a crime and the objective side of a crime. The offender of a criminal offence, the corporate criminal liabilty. The subjective side of a crime. Circumstances excluding illegality. Stages of a crime. Complicity. Concurrence of crimes. The concept and the purpose of punishment. The system of punishment, alternative punishments (non-custodial punishments). Imposing of punishments.

Learning outcomes
The subject Substantive Criminal Law 1 represents the introductory part of the course of criminal law. During the course, students will acquire substantive criminal law - a general part, which includes in particular the conditions of criminal liability and sanctioning offenders. At the end of the course students will be acquainted with the legislation contained in the general part of the Criminal Code and other related regulations (the Juvenile Justice Act, the Corporate Criminal Liability Act), as well as the doctrine and case law relating to the general part of substantive criminal law. The main attention will be focused on the explanation of basic principles of substantive criminal law, particular features of the crime, circumstances excluding illegality, developmental stages of crime, criminal cooperation, concurrence of criminal offenses and the system of criminal sanctions.
Students who have completed this subject will gain knowledge necessary for correct defining of specific elements of crime and qualifying of criminal liability.

Completion of this subject is not conditional upon completion of another subject.
