Course content
Psychohygiene deals with maintaining, deepening or recovering the mental health and balance. The contemporary Man is exposed increasingly to stress factors causing psychical as well as somatic disorders. More and more people die of diseases triggered just by such factors. Sources of mental hygiene provide skills focusing on how to cope adequately with often emotional strains and avoid pertinent stressful events or situations brought about by daily life.

  • Attendace - 4 hours per semester
  • Preparation for the Course Credit - 8 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
After completing this subject students should be able: - to know manifestation and causes of pathological mental health, - to have basic experience with implementation of specific methods and procedures, that positively deal with the mentally disturbed health or strengthen mental health. Topics Mental hygiene and mental health definition, its specific meaning for pedagogical employees. Manifestation and causes of stress, specific causes within the school framework. The manifestation and causes of other forms of mental disturbance. The role of personality, self-exploration and quality of interpersonal relationships during the formation of mental health. The self-exploration methods and its critical points. Approaches to implementation of mental hygiene. Types of impact on causes of negative states. Prevention - adjustment of environment and life style, change of perception and evaluation. Coping with arising negative mental states. Relaxation and meditation approaches. Relaxation methods used with infant population. Autogenous training - Shultz. Progressive relaxation - Jacobson. Relaxation-activating method - Machač.
Students will be eligible explanations of terms and definitions from the field of psychology

Basic knowledge of psychology

Seminar Work

Literature study, active participation in seminars, working up tasks according to teacher's requirements.
