Course content
Lectures' topics: Development of European Political Cooperation in 1970s and 1980s Common Foreign and Security Policy in the Maastricht Treaty, development of CFSP in 1990s, instruments and actors Community dimension of external relations: Common Trade Policy of the EU European Security and Defense Policy (including ESDP operations) Evaluation of EU foreign and security policy effectiveness and prospects for future Seminars' topics: Awkward friendship: relationship between the EU and United States Hot international problems and problem-solving role of the EU Relationship of the EU with its close neighborhood EU actions on the World Trade Organization soil and efforts to reform global trade Relationship of the EU with the rest of the world

Learning outcomes
The aim of the lectures is to understand the activities and role of the European Union in contemporary international system and comprehend the decision-making processes, which were established in the Union in order to pursue its international activities, including the necessary historical background. Seminars are not primarily aimed on the deepening of knowledge gained during the lectures, but they should primarily broaden and apply them on the actual Union's policy towards other regions of the world. Unlike in lectures, the seminars allow to concentrate also on the newest development around the world and the Union's reactions to them. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Students who have completed this course will gain knowledge and skills needed for comprehension of role of the European Union in contemporary international system and its activities in this field.
Prerequisites
The completion of this course is not conditioned upon completion of any other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark

Obligatory attendance in seminars, delivery of presentation and successful final test result are required in order to receive exam. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
