Students have access to distance learning materials through which they complete assignments. They work on seminar assignments and practical exercises independently and present them to, and discuss them with, their lecturers during face-to-face sessions. The outcomes of exercises and seminars in the blended learning format are required to the same extent as in the face-to-face format. Tutors are also available for consultation via the e-learning system and by email. Structure: Preparatory phase: Selection of an institution, consultation with the course coordinator, and setting of individual development goals. Implementation phase: Carrying out work at a media organisation, observing organisational culture and communication flows. Reflection phase: Completing e-learning assignments focusing on ethical dilemmas encountered in practice and the application of media research methods in practice. Consultation and supervision component: Individual or group consultations with NEO lecturers, either online or in person, focused on overcoming challenges in knowledge transfer.

Learning outcomes

Practical training in media communication forms an integral part of the programme. The aim is to enhance students' professional competence and develop the skills they need to work in relevant institutions and organisations. The course focuses on developing the ability to adapt and apply theoretical knowledge and methodology to solve specific professional problems in a real-world environment (known as 'transfer'). Students are encouraged to reflect on and self-reflect upon their experiences through supervision, during which they assess how consciously they apply ethical standards and professional practices. The aim is not merely the passive performance of work, but the active shaping of a professional identity through a critical examination of media operations. The work placement is undertaken at the student's choice, following consultation with and approval by the course supervisor. The work placement is 40 hours long.
Transfer (Integrated Learning): The ability to apply learned theories to new situations in a professional context and to solve practical analytical problems. Critical Reflection: The ability to interpret one's own experience in a way that maintains professional insight and a connection to the context of the discipline. Perspective-taking: The ability to identify and explain multiple disciplinary and ethical perspectives when tackling tasks within a media organisation. Professional communication: Refined expression in both written and oral communication within a professional context (Written and Oral Communication competences).

Completion of the work placement: Completion of a 40-hour work placement in accordance with the Work Placement Guidelines at an approved provider. Administrative requirements: Submission of the Work Placement Application Form, the Final Work Placement Report and the Supervisor's Report via the NEO application by the specified deadline. Quality of reflection: The Final Placement Report must demonstrate analytical insight (the so-called 'Reader's voice'), rather than merely being a descriptive list of activities. The student must clearly link specific work tasks to the theoretical concepts covered in their studies within the text.
