Course content
Introduction to computer graphics - general design principles (composition, colour, typography, image work) Raster and vector graphics - differences, uses, formats, working in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer Brand manual - what a brand manual is, its structure and purpose, working with an existing brand vs. creating one's own Typography and text work - typographic rules, typesetting, text hierarchy Print materials - preparing files for print (bleed, CMYK colour profiles), business card, flyer, poster, publication Multi-page publications - working with a template, cover, typesetting longer text Online and social media - preparing graphics for the web and social media (banner, carousel, icons), RGB vs. CMYK Assignment and consultations - selecting/approving a brand manual, ongoing consultations on the assignment in progress

Learning outcomes
The aim of the studio is to give students a basic overview of computer graphics and the principles of graphic design work, rather than to train them as professional graphic designers. Students will learn how to work with a brand manual and acquire basic skills in raster and vector graphics, typesetting, and typographic rules. Work will be done using Affinity software. Based on the assignment, students will create a set of graphic outputs for a selected or original brand, such as a business card, flyer, poster, or social media banners.

Basic proficiency with a PC (working with files and folders, installing/running software). Own PC or Mac or iPad for working on assignments.
