Course content
Interreligious dialogue: definition, context, objectives. History of interreligious dialogue: Old Testament and New Testament assumptions. History of interreligious dialogue: ancient, medieval and modern times. History of interreligious dialogue: Vatican II and post-Vatican II developments. Basic theological assumptions of interreligious dialogue. Theology of non-Christian religions. The problem of the concept of religion and spirituality. The influence of non-Christian religions on Christian spirituality and lifestyle. Limits of interreligious dialogue.

Learning outcomes
This course is designed to introduce students to the concept of interfaith relations, the goal and method of the theology of non-Christian religions, the doctrinal foundations of the theology of dialogue. In addition, the importance of non-theological factors and impulses for the development of interreligious dialogue will be emphasized. Students will be introduced to the basic historical milestones of interreligious dialogue. And they will also gain knowledge in the field of distinguishing dialogue activities on the spiritual, doctrinal, and practical levels. An overview of the most important outcomes of interreligious dialogue is also included.
Orientation in the themes and development of interreligious relations. Knowledge of the theological foundations of interreligious dialogue. Knowledge of the historical development of interreligious relations. Understanding of the basic paradigms of interreligious dialogue. The role of interreligious relations in the practice of the Church. Ability to identify the needs and promote the dynamics of interfaith relations.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student organizes his/her studies based on the study materials and instructions in the LMS; participates in the announced mandatory online webinars and completes continuous short assignments or tests for which he/she receives credit. If excused from a mandatory webinar, he/she may watch it from a recording. However, the instructor will verify in an appropriate manner that the student has studied the material on the recording. An end-of-semester exam will test whether students are able to interpret selected theological paradigms of interreligious dialogue and apply them to the assigned topics.
