Course content
The course introduces students to the structure, parts, basic principles and technologies of computers, operating, database and information systems and computer networks. In the end of the course basic user and office applications are covered. All discussed technologies and applications are shown at lectures. <ol> <li> What is computer, history of computers. Computer architecture (von Neumann's) and principles of its working. Number scales, Bool angebra, logical functions and circuits. Number and characeter representation. </li> <li> Motherboard and computer internal buses (PCI). Microprocessor (CPU) and internal memories (RAM, cache) principles. </li> <li> Internal computer parts, addon cards (graphical, sound, network, multimedia), external memories (hard disks and disk arrays). </li> <li> Periferies and external computer buses (USB). Monitor (CRT, LCD), input devices (keyboard, mouse etc.), data drives and media (floppy, CD, DVD), printer and scanner, modem. </li> <li> Operating system and its functions in computer control, from both user's and administrator's view. </li> <li> Structure and functions of an operating system (process, memory and disk management). </li> <li> Computer networks, technologies and working principles. </li> <li> Worldwide network Internet and its services. </li> <li> Basics of database systems and data processing. </li> <li> Introduction to information systems and web technologies. </li> <li> Basic user application (files, network, multimedia, accessories). </li> <li> Office applications, creating of documents (text processor), spreadsheets (spreadsheet processor) and presentations. </li> </ol>
