Course introduction; requirements. How old is Olomouc? How to date a central European city. Olomouc in the early Middle Ages. Olomouc bishopric in the Middle Ages. The making of the city. Olomouc in the 13th century, new laws and organization of the urban space. Olomouc until the Thirty Years' War. Olomouc after the Thirty Years' War; making of the fortress. Olomouc as a fortress. Olomouc in the 19th century; the fast development of the city. Olomouc until the WW2. Olomouc in the time of socialism. Final thoughts; meeting the requirements.

| Learning outcomes |
|
The course familiarises a student with the historical development of the city of Olomouc in the context of the history of central Europe. The Olomouc itself will serve as a model for the demonstration how the city changed during some important historical events and in the course of history in general. The course familiarises a student with the historical, economical, architectonical and urban development in general form early Middle Ages till the 20th century.
A student will be acquainted with the historical context of a development of the urban space. He will be able to recognize main architectonical styles found in Olomouc and historical period when they were built. A student will be also acquainted with the main process of the development of the urban center. |
