Course content
|
Lecture topics: 1. General introduction into archive studies. 2. History of depositing of documents in the Czech lands. 3. History and structure of archives in the Czech Republic. 4. Legislature in the Czech Republic and abroad. 5. Archive handbooks, terminology, archive buildings. 6. Record offices and archives - interconnection and continuity. 7. County archives: job description, funds, inventories. 8. State regional archives: job description, funds, inventories. 9. National archive, Archive administration MV ČR, archives of special importance, AUMA, Czech archive company. 10. Research room, presentation of archive materials, protection of archive materials. 11. Archive material as a source of research about past, present and future. 12. Archive handbooks, retrospective, prospect to the future. 13. Digitalization and making archive materials available. Seminars will cover topics based on assigned literature and sources connected to archives, archive funds, particular aspects of archive work. Part of the seminar will be a presentation from stated topics and discussion.

Learning outcomes
|
Main aim of lectures is to provide student with general knowledge about the discipline and its history, bibliography and general terminology. Main aim of the seminars is to engage students with contemporary development in archive studies in the context of development. Students will also acquire knowledge about archive methods and evolution of archive studies in the Czech Republic.
Students will get adequate knowledge about historical and contemporary Czech archives study during the lectures. Seminars will further deepen this knowledge and student will get an overall idea about the past and present of Czech archive studies.

No specific prerequisites. Presumed interest of the student about contemporary events and development in archive studies.
