Olomouc is a city with a rich past and events that have taken place here have played important historical roles on numerous occasions.The city fortifiactions were an integral part of this history and underwent changes simultaneously with political events and developments in military technology and tacticts.The goal of the course is to acquaint students with history of Olomouc fortifications in the medieval, the early modern and the modern period. The course should elucidate the basic fortification concepts, with emphasis on bastion fortress and forts. Content: 1. historiography of Olomouc and of fortification in general 2. Olomouc in the Middle Ages and its fortifications 3. Swedish Occupation 4. Bastion fortress Olomouc 5. Prussian Siege of 1758 6. Olomouc chain of forts 7. Students acquire on the one hand the knowledge of fortifications history of the city Olomouc, on the other hand the knowledge of its social, economical, political and cultural development. Students know fundamental methods of working with historical literature and sources, which deal with fortification. Students apply teoretical experience by preparing their essay. PZ |

Knowledge of basic factual history and elementary knowledge in regional history are expected. PZ
