Obsah předmětu
In this course we shall study philosophical writing from various American traditions, including Puritanism, the American Enlightenment, Transcendentalism (Romanticism in America), pragmatism, and the moral epistemologies of Stanley Cavell and Cora Diamond. Readings will be from original texts and from my American Philosophy before Pragmatism. Weekly readings and topics: 14 February. Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin. To learn something about several traditions of American thought, including the American Enlightenment, Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, and contemporary moral philosophy. The course is taught by visiting professor Russell B. GOODMAN. The course is "Lecture Oriented," with some time most meetings for questions and discussion of the readings. Readings will be available online.
A deeper understanding of the various traditions of American philosophy.
