Course content
Lectures: Roman Period 1st History of research, period system. 2nd Historical summary - (written, cartographic, iconographic, epigraphic and numismatic sources, Roma empire and limes romanus, origin of Germanic nations, germanic tribes and its segmentations), political history of Central Europe (Marobud empire, the Kingdom of Vannius, Markomanni wars, the crisis of Roman empire and its demise) 3rd Main archaeological culture and cultural groups. 4th Economy of Germans. 5th Culture of Germans - society, art and religion. 6th Roman Period in Central Europe - chronology, burial grounds, settlement area, material culture, romans import. 7th Intervention of the Romans legions north from Danube - Mušov-Burgstall, Mušov-Neurissen, romans field camps. 8th Roman and Germanic archaeological sites and findings in the Olomouc region. 9th The clash between Danube and Elbe Valley cultural circle in Haná region. Migration Period 10th A historical overview - written sources, summary of major tribes, historical events and context 11th Archaeology of Migration Period in Cetral Europe, put emphasis on Czech Republic (intermediate level D1, Group Přešťovice-Friedenhaim, Vinařice group, Danubian cultural circuit, Huns, Heruli tribe, Thuringi tribe, Lombards, late grade of the Migration Period and ethnical changes). 12th New perspectives on the end of the Germanic settlement and the beginnings of Slavic settlement in our country - Migration Period in Moravia (chronology, burial grounds, settlements, material culture). 13th The significance of the Germanic findings from Migration Period from Olomouc region. Seminars) 1st Selection of presentation´s and essay´s topics 2-13th Presentation and discussion about topics of essays.

Learning outcomes
The main target is gaining basic knowledge of Archaeology od Roman Period and Migrations Period in large space of Central Europe (Czech Republic, southwest Slovakia, Lower Austria).
Individual orientation of matters of Archaeology of Central Europe in 1-6th century (with material culture).
Prerequisites
Basic orientation in Roman Period and Migration Period (from Study of prehistory).

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance

(1) Excursion: 39 hours = 1,5 credits; (2) Study of information sources, preparation presentation to seminar: 13 hours = 0,5 credits; (3) Study of information sources and preparation for examination: 50 hours = 2 credits.
