Learning outcomes
|
The seminar offers a practical introduction to the analysis of dialogue and develops students' ability to examine authentic conversational data in detail. Participants explore the structural and procedural foundations of conversational organization, including conversational turns, listener activities, the sequencing and progression of conversational phases, and ritual patterns in interaction. Attention is also given to describing, explaining, and arguing within dialogue, as well as to identifying conflicts and the procedures used to manage them. Theoretical knowledge is deepened through student presentations and discussion.
The resulting competence consists of the ability to: independently transcribe authentic conversational data using established transcription conventions, apply conversationanalytic methods directly to primary spoken data and interpret interactional phenomena in context, identify and describe key interactional structures in real conversations, including sequences, phases, turntaking patterns, repair mechanisms, and listener activities, evaluate verbal and nonverbal resources used by participants in authentic interaction, analyze different types of dialogues (informal, institutional, narrative, conflictual) with regard to their communicative purposes, prepare and deliver a presentation based on secondary literature and their own analysis of primary conversational data, formulate clear, wellstructured analytical conclusions and present findings effectively in both oral and written form.

Prerequisites
|
The seminar is intended for all students of the Palacký University, knowledge of German at least at B2 level and knowledge of basic linguistic terminology is assumed.

|
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work, Final project
The requirements for obtaining the credit are: - regular attendance (80%) - active participation in seminar discussions - a presentation with a handout/slides or a seminar paper
