Learning outcomes
|
The topic of this lecture is Sociolinguistics. The lecture introduces students to the foundations of sociolinguistics, its historical development, and major theoretical approaches. It focuses on the sociology of German and presents the medial, functional, sociolectal, and areal varieties of the German language. The course also covers sociolinguistic research methods and offers the option to explore a specialized topic from the HSK domain. It develops the ability to critically analyze language within its social context and understand its variability.
The resulting competence consists of the ability to: describe sociological theoretical concepts, explain them, and apply them to primary texts, explain and characterize the functional, media, and sociological varieties of the German language, characterize selected dialect groups and areal varieties, analyze and characterize a primary text from a sociolinguistic perspective, present a specific sociolinguistic phenomenon on the basis of secondary literature.

Prerequisites
|
The lecture is intended for all students of the Palacký University, knowledge of German at least at B2 level and knowledge of basic linguistic terminology is assumed.
