Course content
|
The lecture provides students with the basics in the development of art in the context of Europe. The lectures, focused on the 20th century, will connect the development on the old continent with the development overseas. The sequence of movements will not be presented as mutually negating epochs but as epochs that are linked and intertwined. This will partially crush prejudice and simplification that is taught at secondary schools. Lecture Outline: 1. Pre-Romanesque Art 2. Romanesque Art 3. Gothic Art 4. Gothic Art in the Czech Lands 5. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the lecture and seminar is to provide students with the development of European art from the early Middle Ages to the interwar period.
Recognition of the most important manifestations and works of fine art, classification of all important pieces of European fine art according to period and style. Students will be able to recognize to which epoch a piece of art belongs. They will be able to describe, in German, artwork, sculptures and architecture, they will know basic scholarly terminology of the history of art, especially in the field of architecture. Without hesitation they will describe and classify all movements and they will clarify the tendencies of development in European art. They will understand simpler scholarly texts and argumentation of the author and will be able to either support or controvert their opinions.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of German language at B2 level is a prerequisite for completion of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam, Student performance
Active participation during the lecture, completion of set assignments, minimum of 55% in the final test.
