Course content
|
The theoretical portion of the course will introduce the basic principles of GIScience. The practical portion will take place primarily in the computer lab and will focus on working with freely available software and its applications designed for creating and sharing interactive thematic maps online. Particular attention will be given (though not exclusively) to Google My Maps, Datawrapper, Flourish Studio, ArcGIS Online, and Leaflet. An integral part of the course will be presentations of students' own projects in English.

Learning outcomes
|
The goal of this course is, on a theoretical level, to expand students' knowledge of GIScience, and on a practical level, to help them acquire the skills needed to create and present their own interactive online maps using several different freely available applications.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to create their own interactive online maps using freely available technologies and will be able to present their work in English.

Prerequisites
|
High school-level knowledge of information technology and basic knowledge of English language. Ability to work independently on a computer.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Dialog, Seminar Work, Final project
Active participation in classes, elaboration of seminar works to the required standard, discussion focused on elaborated interactive maps.
