Course content
The course is structured into six thematic modules linking theory with the practical preparation of a seminar paper: 1. General water management and legislation (the Water Act, state administration authorities). 2. Hydraulic structures (functions of dams, polders, and small water reservoirs). 3. Water supply in the Czech Republic (drinking water abstraction, treatment, and distribution). 4. Wastewater treatment in the Czech Republic (sewerage systems, mechanical-biological wastewater treatment plants - WWTPs, stormwater fees). 5. Water in built-up areas (decentralized stormwater management, blue-green infrastructure). 6. Water in the landscape (landscape water retention capacity, USLE, land drainage/melioration, and river restoration).

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to provide fstudents with a comprehensive overview of the organization of water management in the Czech Republic, the legislative framework for water protection, and both technical and natural water management structures in the landscape. The course focuses on developing practical skills in the local analysis of water management characteristics, identifying hydroecological risks within the territory, and applying geographic information systems (GIS) to solve real-world problems in both urban areas and the open countryside. The course fosters critical thinking regarding the adaptation of settlements to climate change.
The student can independently identify surface water and groundwater resources within the area of interest, determine their managing authorities, analyze local flood and erosion control measures, and locate river restoration sites. They understand the operation of water supply and wastewater treatment systems and, using available background data, can identify areas of water soil erosion, concentrated runoff pathways, and drought impacts in waterbasin. Based on the gathered data and information, the graduate is qualified to identify challenges within built-up areas and propose conceptual blue-green infrastructure measures."
Prerequisites
Knowledge within the scope of general geographical disciplines of the bachelor study of geography. Basic user proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) for generating cartographic outputs.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam, Seminar Work

Timely submission of the seminar paper (verified for content and formatting correctness according to the guidelines) to obtain the course credit. The final exam is oral and is conditional upon obtaining the course credit, knowledge within scope of lectures and indicated literature.
