Course content
|
The course is designed as a practically oriented seminar focused on the preparation and writing of academic texts in geography. Instruction progresses from a general overview of types of academic texts (journal article, review, research report, thesis, etc.) through the structure of a scientific article (IMRaD), working with scholarly databases and effective searching, to skills directly related to writing - working with sources, citation managers, plagiarism and citation ethics, academic language and style, writing individual sections of a text, and peer review. At the end of the course, students write their own short academic text on a geographical topic and conduct mutual peer review.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to develop students' practical skills in academic writing in geography. Students will become familiar with types of academic and scientific texts, principles of working with scholarly literature, citation ethics, and academic writing standards. Emphasis is placed on active skill development through practical exercises.
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will be able to write a literature review on a given research topic, utilizing and critically evaluating scholarly sources while adhering to ethical principles in their use.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge within the scope of general geographical disciplines at the bachelor's level of geography studies. Basic familiarity with scholarly geographical literature.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Seminar Work
Active participation in seminars. Continuous completion of assigned tasks (text analysis, annotated bibliography, partial exercises). Submission of an original short academic text on a geographical topic and completion of a peer review according to a predefined form.
