Course content
|
In the introductory section of the course, students will be familiarised with the theoretical foundations of perception and its potential for methodological application through lectures and the independent study of assigned literature. Subsequently, a research problem will be defined, which students will address through group work. Methodologically, the research project will be grounded specifically in the phenomenon of perception. Students will learn to test and employ specific methods for the collection, analysis, visualisation, interpretation, and theoretical discussion of data, with particular emphasis placed on the use of GIS. At the end of the course, students will present their achieved results. Main topics: 1. Theoretical foundations of perception, cognition, human behaviour, and space 2. Principal theoretical and methodological premises of humanistic and behavioural geography 3. Mental maps, images, and schemas 4. Methodological premises for studying the perception of geographical space 5. Spatial perception in fundamental and applied research 6. Procedures for addressing selected case studies

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the theoretical and methodological premises and specificities of the perception of the geographical space, and to equip them with the ability to apply these insights in their own research project.
Students will gain an understanding of the principal theoretical and methodological approaches to the perception of geographical space and will be able to explain its key specificities. Drawing upon these theoretical and methodological insights, they will be capable of independently designing, conducting, and evaluating their own research project focused on human spatial perception. Furthermore, they will acquire the competencies necessary to critically interpret the collected data and formulate relevant academic conclusions.

Prerequisites
|
Students are expected to possess advanced proficiency in GIS, a fundamental familiarity with geographical concepts and terminology, the ability to comprehend academic literature, and a knowledge of the principles of academic ethics. Prior experience with scientific methodology is advantageous, though not strictly essential for the successful completion of the course.
