Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to introduce students to and help them master selected methods of field research and data collection in physical and human geography. Emphasis is placed not only on modern approaches to data collection and processing, but especially on the study of current topics in physical and human geography at the local and regional levels of the Olomouc metropolitan area. Through group work and new approaches to data collection and processing, the course will help students fulfil the key competencies required of teacher education graduates in areas 1.2, 3.2, and 5.1.
Students have a good understanding of field research methods and the processing and analysis of collected data in key areas of physical and human geography. They can design and implement, as part of group work, a method for collecting field data according to specific requirements based on the needs of local or regional institutions or companies, or on proposals from student working groups. They appropriately analyse the collected data and present it in a format accessible to both the general public and experts. Fulfilment of common professional competencies at the level of skills: 1.2.3 - The student can establish connections between theoretical concepts in the field, real-world phenomena, and practical life experiences, taking current events into account. 1.2.8 - The student critically evaluates the relevance and quality of sources and can guide students toward critical thinking and creative activities through inquiry-based tasks. 3.2.1 - Through the design of project-based and tandem instruction, the student is prepared to guide students toward collaboration and mutual support in learning. 5.1.5 - The student can actively collaborate within a team and participate in the joint creation of instructional materials.

Prerequisites

A basic overview of physical and human geography topics, and working with information technology.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Final project
Attendance at the course module is mandatory. Development of a project involving data mapping and analysis in selected subject areas, using a specific example. Collection, analysis, and presentation of data obtained through field research. Fulfillment of common professional competencies through the following requirements: 1.2.3 - The structure of the data collection and processing tasks specifically requires linking disciplinary theory to real-world phenomena, practical experience, and current events in the region. 1.2.8 - A critical assessment of the nature of the topic being studied, field data collection, and the preparation of a data collection plan leads to the development of critical thinking and creative activity. 5.1.5 - Working in groups on specific practical tasks develops the ability to actively contribute to a team and participate in the creation of instructional materials.
