Course content
|
Course deals with: geographic delimitation of the region, basic physical geographic characteristic (geological development, geomorphologic, climatic, hydrologic, pedogeographic, biogeographic conditions, nature and landscape conservation), basic socio-economic characteristic (position of the region in the world, historical development and its influence on formation of European society, general population characteristics, agriculture, industry, transportation, services and tourism, integration with emphasis on the EU), the most important political geographical, social, economic and safety issues of the region.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to deepen students' knowledge of the physical and human geography of Europe, applying general geographical knowledge to specific examples within the European space and to the principles of regionalization of the European continent. The course fulfills the key competencies for teaching graduates: 1.2.1 Understanding key socioeconomic, physical-geographical, and geopolitical processes in the European space; 6.2.1 Responsible handling of information and digital tools leading to democratic values and ethical conduct; 6.2.7 Respect for scientific facts, media literacy, and responsible handling of information, social media, and artificial intelligence.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will understand complex European topics (e.g., regionalization, migration, energy transition) and, in the case of teaching students, will be able to translate them into conceptually clear teaching (linked to the Competence Framework 1.2.1, 1.2.2). Furthermore, students will be able to search for, critically evaluate, and interpret spatial and statistical data about Europe (e.g., from Eurostat, UN databases, etc.), responsibly handle information, social media, and artificial intelligence, and, in the case of teaching students, utilize these skills to develop pupils' spatial and information literacy (linked to the Competence Framework 6.2.1 and 6.2.7).

Knowledge within the scope of general geographical disciplines of the bachelor study of geography.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Oral exam, Written exam
Credit Requirements: Regular attendance in seminars, verified through basic knowledge demonstrated in assigned tasks and continuous written tests (for teaching students, linked to competencies 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 6.2.1), along with active participation in classroom discussion between the instructor and students (linked to competency 6.2.7). Exam Requirements: Knowledge corresponding to the scope of lectures and designated literary and data sources (linked to competencies 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 6.2.1, and 6.2.7).
