Course content
|
The course covers: the integration of anthropogenic geomorphology into the system of sciences and the development of geomorphological thought, the stages of human impact on relief, the main classifications of anthropogenic landforms and anthropogenic processes, and the consequences of anthropogenic processes in the landscape. Main topics: - the integration of anthropogenic geomorphology into the system of sciences; geomorphological schools and the development of geomorphological thought; - geomorphological terminology related to anthropogenic relief, the basic typology of anthropogenic relief; - the main stages of human impact on relief; - genetic classification of anthropogenic processes and anthropogenic landforms; - the influence of humans on the acceleration of natural geomorphological processes; - the influence of humans on the mitigation of natural hazardous geomorphological processes; - the most significant anthropogenic interventions and their consequences; - global impacts of human activities on geomorphological processes; - modern methods of anthropogenic geomorphological research and geomorphological mapping. For the combined (part-time) form of study, study materials are available at moodle.upol.cz.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the fundamental concepts of anthropogenic geomorphology, particularly the assessment of landscape modification by human activities, the main classifications of anthropogenic landforms and anthropogenic processes, the stages of human-induced landscape transformation, and the consequences of anthropogenic processes in the landscape. Students will become acquainted with the genetic classification of anthropogenic processes and landforms, the influence of humans on accelerating or slowing natural geomorphological processes, the consequences of the most significant anthropogenic interventions, and the global impact of human activities on geomorphological processes. Another objective is to introduce students to modern methods of geomorphological research and geomorphological mapping.
Understanding and knowledge of the basic terms and concepts used in anthropogenic geomorphology and physical geography, as well as an understanding of the fundamental methods of geomorphological research with a focus on the impact of human activities on natural processes. The core competency is understanding the interrelationships and connections between the natural and socio-economic environments. Students acquire competencies corresponding to the requirements of a bachelor's degree in geography and develop not only professional knowledge but also analytical, interpretative, and applied skills that build upon the foundational compulsory courses. The course examines the impact of human activities on the environment. Students gain practical experience in assessing the impact of humans on landforms (Environmental Impact Assessment - EIA) and are able to evaluate the effects of human activities on relief.

The course builds on Physical Geography 2 by expanding on the knowledge acquired in geomorphology.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance
Course requirements for credit: a presentation by a pair of students on a specific project involving anthropogenic modification of the relief evaluated within the EIA process (assessment of the process and the extent of anthropogenic intervention), and an individual assignment using field research and work with geoportals focused on documenting anthropogenic landforms and the anthropogenic influence on natural geomorphological processes. Seminar paper (according to the required structure, including the partial tasks from the seminar). Examination requirements: knowledge of the fundamental concepts within the scope defined by the course content.
