Learning outcomes
|
Basic lecture in general geology.
The students should be able to: - define geology, its division, relationship with other natural sciences - explain the build-up of the Earth, its geophysical model. - define the terms Earth´s crust, mantle, core, lithosphere and asthenosphere - describe the main endogenic and exogenic processes (magmatism, metamorphism, sedimentation - describe the tectonic processes, resulting structures and deformations of geological bodies. - explain how eathquakes emerge; describe the principles of plate tectonics - describe the development of continental and oceanic crust, define shields, platforms, orogens, basins. - explain exogenic geological processes - weathering, erosion, action of rainwater, streamwater, and groundwater, action of frost and ice, karst phenomena. - classify the evolution of the Earth in geological time, define the stratigraphic table
