Learning outcomes
The course introduces the main philosophical themes of one of the most influential thinkers in the history of Christianity, Aurelius Augustine, Bishop of Hippo Regius (354-430). We will read Czech translations and comment on selected texts from his dialogue On the Order of Divine Providence, from his Confessions on the themes of memory and time, and from his treatise On the Trinity on the concept of the human mind as an image of the Trinity.
During the course, students will acquire the following competencies: - Understanding of the key themes of Augustine's philosophy. - Ability to interpret and critically analyze philosophical texts, including working with Czech translations and commentaries. - Orientation in the historical and theological context of late antiquity and early Christianity. - Development of the ability to engage in philosophical discussion within the seminar, including the formulation of one's own questions and opinions. - The ability to present and defend one's own understanding of the text during the final colloquium.

Povinně volitelný předmět vhodný pro studenty, kteří již absolvovali předmět Patrologie.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

The course requirements can be met by regular active online participation in the seminar and successful completion of the final online oral colloquium, which is scheduled for January 2026.
