Course content
1. acquaintance with relevant auxiliary literature (subsidies: dictionaries and grammars) 2. selection of the critical edition 3. reading, translation, commentary and discussion of the selected texts N.B. the ratio of time devoted to individual parts varies depending on the level of progress of a particular student

Learning outcomes
The focus of the lecture is a study of ancient Latin, alternatively as advanced or complimentary study of classic or church/ecclesiastic Latin. Student will learn basic grammatical structure of the Latin language (morphology and syntax) with regard to his/her existing knowledge, and will proceed to independent reading of Latin texts with help of a vocabulary. Text will be selected with regard of student's dissertation (Vulgate, Latin patristics, medieval Latin). Student will also get acquainted with existing grammar books and lexicons for preferred type of Latin.
The student will gain the necessary knowledge for independent reading of Latin authors.
Prerequisites
Prerequisite is a basic knowledge of the Latin language and / or an interest in reading a Latin text relevant to the topic of the doctoral thesis.

Dialog, Written exam

Active approach of the student to teaching and ability to translate Greek text with the help of a dictionary
