Course content
1. The Alexandria Catechetical School and its starting points 2. Clement of Alexandria and his exegetical works 3. Clarification of the terms commentary, homily, scholia and catenae 3. Interpretation of Mt 19: 16-30 by Clement's Homily Quis dives salvetur? and Origen´s Commentary on Matt 4. Presentation of the EKK project

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce into the exegetical method of two main representatives of the Alexandrian ecclesiastical tradition: Clement of Alexandria and Origen. Students will be introduced into the texts presenting the rules of interpretation of the biblical text and examples of the interpretation of both ancient authors. Part of the course is to clarify the terms commentary, homily, scholia and catenae.
Students will acquire the necessary knowledge for independent reading of ancient authors (with emphasis on texts interpreting Scripture).
Prerequisites
basic knowledge of Greek (Latin) language
